About Us

The Southeast Asian (SEA) Division was formed 22 years ago to provide a platform for dental researchers to present and discuss their research findings.  Geographically the SEA Division covers a wide area including the South East Asia countries and also some countries in South Asia like Sri Lanka, Nepal and Pakistan.

The SEA Division is committed to bring the benefits of IADR to all dental researchers and academicians in our region though the “Adopt-a-member Program”.  So far the membership of members from Myanmar, Indonesia, Vietnam and Philippines has been supported.    In line with the Global IADR mission, the Division has also been receiving funding through the Regional Development Program since 1997.  Countries that have benefited from this program were Indonesia, Myanmar, Vietnam and Philippines.  This year the SEA Division once again succeeded in securing the RDP funding.  A research methodology workshop was conducted in Cambodia this April 2009 and researchers from Lao were also invited to participate.  This program focused on training the trainers where young researchers were mentored to formulate research proposals and the funding also enables these researchers to present their findings at the next Division Meeting in Taiwan.

Since its inception, the Division has grown in strength in terms of its membership and activities.  The current member count is 480.  Every year the Division organises a scientific meeting to bring together researchers from the region to share their research findings as well as networking.   These divisional meetings have also attracted researchers from other divisions of the IADR.  At the last 22nd divisional meeting which was held in Manila where there were 130 papers presented.  This year there will be no divisional meeting but instead the Division will be co-hosting the 2nd Meeting of the IADR PAPF and 1st Meeting of the IADR APR in Wuhan, China with the Chinese Division.   The Council members of the SEA Division welcome all delegates to the meeting in Wuhan in September 2009.
