A. PBL facilitator training workshop – an introduction to facilitation: process and strategy
Date & Time: Thursday, 12 November 2009 (14:00) and Friday, 13 November 2009 (9:30)
Venue: Lecture Theatre II, G/F, The Prince Philip Dental Hospital
Duration: Approx. 2½ hours each
Registration fee: HK$800 / US$110
This 2-part workshop is designed for participants who are relatively new to PBL facilitation and will include interactive presentations as well observation of parts of the first and second sessions of a live tutorial with dental undergraduate students working on a PBL problem.
The presentations will demonstrate the different ways in which problems are structured and handled as well as covering the different stages and goals of the PBL process during the first and second tutorials
The role of facilitator and the importance of assessments will be highlighted.
Time will be available for discussion for all aspects of the PBL process to suit the individual participants.
B. Problem writing workshop
Date & Time: Thursday, 12 November 2009 (9:30)
Venue: PBL Resource Room, PBL Suite, G/F, The Prince Philip Dental Hospital
Duration: Approx. 2 ½ hours
Registration fee: HK$500 / US$65
In this workshop, experienced PBL problem writers will introduce the principles of curriculum design and student-centred outcome approach. There will be presentations on the basic structures of PBL and the different types of inquiry material. Sample PBL problems and inquiry materials will be used as examples for discussion.
The participants will have the opportunity to work in groups to develop an outline for a PBL problem on a topic of their choice. Discussions on difficulties encountered and possible ways of overcoming these will be explored by the workshop facilitators.
